Today, most lasers treat the skin with high power levels and macroscopic spot sizes. As a result, healthy tissue can often times get damaged along with the tissue requiring treatment.
A new approach is based upon the evolving science of Fractional Photothermolysis and is utilized in the Fraxel laser by Reliant.
Treating the skin fractionally using the Fraxel Laser causes a unique wound healing process. Each area that the laser affects is surrounded by healthy tissue. By decreasing the amount of treated tissue, the body is able to regenerate healthy tissue to the treated areas faster. Each Fraxel treatment affects only 20% of the skin. After five treatments, spaced two to four weeks apart, the entire surface will have been treated.
